Great Hall, cinema Europa, Varšavska Street 3, 10000 Zagreb

Efraim Zuroff was born in New York on August 5, 1948, into a Jewish family from western Ukraine and Lithuania. In 1978 he became the first director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, where he played a key role in establishing the Center's library and archives of the Center, and as a historical advisor he collaborated on the Academy award-winning documentary Genocide. After returning to Jerusalem in 1980, he worked in the Jewish Agency on jobs related to Jewish education in Israel and the Diaspora and became an associate researcher of the American Office for Special Investigations. This was the beginning of his career as a Nazi Hunter of war criminals and as a true successor of Wiesenthal.

In the summer of 2002, he launched the Operation Last Chance, which offers financial rewards for information that will facilitate the prosecution of Nazi war criminals. The project has been initiated in 14 countries. Thanks to his undertaking more than a thousand of hereto unknown suspects' names were yielded, 110 of whom have been processed. He launched the Operation Last Chance II in December 2011 with a focus on the men who served in Nazi death camps and the members of the Einsatzgruppen (special mobile killing units).

He published more than 450 articles, reports and reviews on various topics related to the Holocaust and other issues of concern in the Jewish world, among which, along with the Operation Last Chance, two books stand out: Occupation: Nazi-Hunter: The Continuing Search for the Perpetrators of the Holocaust  (1994) and Our People; Journey With an Enemy, co-authored with the Lithuanian writer Rūta Vanagaitė.

Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008, Dr Efraim Zuroff has won many awards and acknowledgements, including the Order of Prince Trpimir with Ribbon and Star for his “outstanding contribution to the fight against historical revisionism and reassertion of the anti-fascist foundation of the modern-day Republic of Croatia and to establishment of good relations between the Republic of Croatia and the state of Israel”.

The book promotion will be held at the Great Hall of cinema Europa on April 9, 2018, at 17:30 hours. Alongside Mr. Efraim Zuroff, Mr. Stjepan Mesić will attend the promotion and Mr. Seid Serdarević will moderate the conversation.
