Biography

Island of Hope is a warm and moving story about a diverse group of people whose lives, thoughts, and relationships are touched and tested by their encounters with strangers. What happens when 200 boys, asylum seekers, arrive on the small Danish island of Ærø and begin interacting with the local population? The islanders are worried and fearful that the island may be too small for such a large group of strangers. Director Helle Toft Jensen, who lives on Ærø, followed their interactions with her camera for six years, bringing us a beautiful story filled with touching and emotional moments, where lifelong friendships are formed.
